I don't mean to hijack your thread Neil but it's a similar question so thought I'd put it in here.
I'm almost done refitting my mast (it's down) and have replaced all wiring. I've used LMR-240 coax to replace the RG stuff. The connection at the mast base will be semi-permanent since it's inside so I'm thinking a connector isn't the way to go maybe. I'd planned on crimping the center conductor, wrapping that then laying the shielding from the two sides over each other and then heat shrinking the entire thing to waterproof it.
Comments or suggestions?
