I recently sold my home in order to do some extended cruising... probably until the ticker stops ticking.
Among the many challenges in moving from a large home to a boat, is how to reduce the inventory of books and sailing references to take along. Obviously, a boat is not an ideal place to maintain a conventional "library".
There are plenty of books available for "recreational reading" on an iPad, Kindle, etc. The bigger challenge is how to preserve my investment in the many more sailing books that I've acquired over the years. Most of these are not available in a digital format, and those that are represent a sizable investment just to replace the printed ones I already own.
In spite of this, I've already purchased digital replacements for many of them and scanned many more. I still have quite a good many that need to be converted and/or replaced and I'm quickly approaching departure. The books I've converted came quite nicely... at least as good as the ones I purchased. But, I no longer have access to the high-speed auto-scanner that I previously used.
I'm wondering if anyone else has tackled this problem and what solutions you've come up with. Have you found any good scanning services? Any ideas on how else to do this quickly?
Thanks for any feedback.
