I'll be helping sail a boat from Newport to Norfolk around Labor Day. If the weather allows we'll go non-stop, but I'd like to have some places in mind to duck into if necessary. Sandy Hook, Manasquam, Atlantic City, Cape May, Breakwater Harbor, and possibly Ocean City, MD (??) seem like the best bets. I've been to all (except Ocean City) but not in the last 20 years or more.
I've been looking at Active Captain and other sources and have a couple questions if anyone here can help out:
Manasquam - is there a reasonably-priced marina/restaurant to tie up to (6 ft draft)? I assume anchoring is not feasible. There used to be a Shrimp Box restaurant with free docking for patrons but I don't see it on Active Captain.
Atlantic City - Thorofare Bay looks nice but a bit tricky to enter with our draft. Is it doable?
Ocean City, MD - should this even be on the list as a place to bring a sailboat into?
I realize none of the inlets should be done in onshore weather or with strong current against wind.
Thanks, and if I missed any that should be considered please fill me in! btw Active captain is a great resource, I just stumbled on it after Tom Young's mentions here.
