Boarding at night by someone that wants to take what you have is a possibility everywhere. You have a key to lock and start your car and your boat. You have a lock on the front door of your house. If theft isn't an issue you wouldn't have them.
When you travel in an area where the water is warm you have the possibility of being boarded by swimmers who want to steal your stuff. People wake up to find jerry cans gone from deck or snorkeling gear gone. It has to do with so many people far from home that run out of money and become thieves. We're not even including the thugs that want to really harm you. You need to understand that it's the way the world is and accept it. It's part of cruising. You just accept it and enjoy all the other aspects of self accountability that go along with the life style of traveling on a boat.
