pilot on a tanker outbound from Searsport giving his securitie' call, giving approximate times of arrival as the 1000' tanker travels down Penobscot bay, enough fog to limit vis to less than 1 nm. Someone responds...."this is sailboat...blah, blah,...I am going east at 5 knots from Camden, request that you change course." pilot responds with exasperation in his voice " not possible, I am traveling in the 'Recommended Vessel traffic lanes' if you want to avoid a collison stay out of that lane. " Sailboat responds with something to the effect that he doesn't know where those lanes are.....they aren't on his "map".
At this point the pilot shuts down the conversation with a curt "you have all the warnings I am required to give, good day"
This is typical for pilots in and outbound during the summer months.
