True story.
A couple that just purchased a Vagabond 47 were practicing motoring into their slip at the end of a finger in Dana Point during a cross wind. They would go across the fairway and point at their slip trying to negotiate the crosswind that was blowing from the starboard side. Our slip was across from the main channel from theirs, it was a Saturday and was quite busy in the harbor. The wife was at the helm and was yelling at her husband who was at the bow trying to communicate that there were boats coming down the channel and she needed to wait before she turned.
Her husband yelled at her to turn 'NOW'. "We have the right of way, we're a sailboat". She didn't want to turn but he insisted to "TURN NOW". Well, she turned right in front of a 50' powerboat and almost got t-bonded. The guy on the powerboat was cursing at the guy at the bow on the Vagabond telling him he was an idiot. He in turn was cursing and yelling at the powerboat saying that he was a sailboat and had the right of way.
It's scary in the harbor.
