I already have SOLAS flares - of all kinds. Just for red parachutes, I have about a dozen of various ages,
including at least a half dozen less than 10 years old. So, I know how big they are. The SOLAS orange
smoke cannisters (which I have about a half dozen of) are also bulky and heavy.

Another thing that has to be remembered is that you should fire off two flares in succession to get the attention of
another vessel. That means that if you carry the SOLAS kit with 4 red parachute then you really only
have enough night-time alert flares for two tries.
