The first day of our long awaited cruise began yesterday. We made it a total of about three miles when the starboard engine shut down. I spent about an hour trying to figure out what happened when the port engine shut down. I spent another hour changing filters and trying to bleed the lines but can't get any fuel.
I thought we were in good shape tank-wise. The boat was only run for eight or ten years before sitting on the hard for the next twenty or so with no fuel in the tanks but I guess I was wrong. The few test trips we took went without a hitch, but the 200 gallons I added must have loosened up a lot of crud. So we're in Oyster Bay sitting on a mooring in front of Billy Joel's, waiting for a mechanic to arrive. I'm guessing the 200 gallons will be pumped out and the tanks will need to be steamed cleaned and all the lines either cleaned out or (better yet) replaced.
At least it happened in the middle of Long Island Sound and not in the middle of Hell Gate. LOL!
I posted this pic to our blog from the middle of LI Sound. Our Verizon hot spot is awesome.
