I finished installing the two sets of Filter Bosses yesterday. It's all in the blog if anyone wants to read about it.
I primed the filters and turned on the built-in fuel pumps and the Racors filled with water. We've been sitting here in NJ for over two weeks with less than half full tanks so condensation must have been pretty heavy. I used one Filter Boss in polishing mode to remove five gallons of water, repeatedly turning the pump on, turning it off, draining the water from the bowl. But that took a couple of hours and there's still more in there.
We tried to find a pro with the right equipment to come polish the fuel, but with no success so far.
My thought today is to remove one of the tanks access plates and use an old fuel line taped to a stick to get to the bottom of the tank, and an old electric fuel pump to pump from the tank directly into the bilge, passing the water through an absorbant pad to catch any stray fuel or crud. I'll stop when the clear water turns pink. Does this sound reasonable? There shouldn't be any oil or fuel getting in the bilge if I pass it through a pad, right?
Or should I be extra cautious and pump into my one five gallon jerry can and then lug it someplace to dump it? That could be a slow process because I don't know how much water is in there.
