Those of you who follow my blog may recall that I just about sunk the boat a couple of weeks ago, which was about two weeks after a mechanic in Ossining had the access cover off. The nuts holding the cover on were just hand tight, so when water covered the cover it leaked. I'm pretty sure that's it, since I've had no problems with water for the past year and a half until now. Just one more reason to do-it-yourself.
The really funny part is that yesterday I got over five gallons out using the Filter Bosses before giving up. Today, I removed the access cover, hooked up a hose to a copper pipe and stuck it down to the bottom. I got about a half a cup out before it turned pink. I went all over the bottom of the tank and only sucked out diesel.
I have both engines running right now. One Filter Boss vacuum gauge reads 0 psi, the other 3. I don't have to change filters until I hit 8. As soon as the engines warm up fully, I'll shut them down and go back to polishing for the rest of the day.
BTW, my fuel, water, and holding tanks are all built into the hull and have fiberglass tops and access ports.
