of offending one or more owners who have a dinghy/davit setup like in Jon's picture above, I've got to ask, "What is it about stability that you don't get?" I know, I know, stern access is improved and the dinghy won't (likely) get slapped by a following sea, but.... That's a whole pot load of weight back there, or should I say, Up there and it surely will make a difference in how your boat behaves under sail and offshore.
Ultimately, I really blame the designers and builders. Wouldn't it just have been easier to design or build a boat where dinghy stowage was already provided for rather than just left up to the owner(s) to make do somehow? How about a little more creative thinking? Dinghies weren't just invented yesterday.
