A friend is a couple days from St. Marteen -- after making way from Long Island...

He managed a very rough passage, but with Herb's help with his adjustments, we went way west of Bermuda; and, then headed south.

Many of the other boats who were headed in the same general direction at the same time ended-up in the thick of it. Some went back or bailed into Bermuda. One of his friends from NY in a Hinckley got "swamped" by a huge wave. They set-off the beacon. No one badly hurt, but they had to leave the boat according to his radio reports.

Now the crews trying to go south are having to deal with Jean: http://www.palmbeachpost.com/storm. Click on the buttons and you'll see some interesting features of the link.

This time of year can make that passage a bitch. This year, the gaps between the systems was non-existent.
