There are a lot of boats out there trying the same route. Really a tough time to "pick" a route.
My friend motored to keep moving, then when the wind picked-up he was in a position to move well to get by before it "socked-in". Finally he got pasted by a the gale that turned into a storm. Then, intead of heading toward St. Marteen, he was advised by Herb to head East (away from his goat) to get out of the way of some of the weather, then when he headed southeast...he actually slowed the boat down to avoid getting into a tougher situation. After a bit they could adjust the course as they got "lifted" toward St. Marteen. He's probably about 300 nm away as I write this.
