Whenever I read about a vessel being abandoned at least half the time it was steering that caused the captain to made the decision to abandon the vessel.
Bob Perry once said that he didn't think that a skeg hung rudder was any stronger than a blade but I disagree and I don't know s--t . He said he makes skeg hung rudders because people like them. Almost every time there is a rudder problem it's a blade. Same as an incapsulated keel versus a bolt on one.
Give me a skeg hung rudder and an incapsulated keel over a blade and bolt on anytime.
