You might check the UV resistance 
In Response To: ever hear of Le Tonkinois varnish? ()
They may two variations for marine use (unless I'm wrong) -- one is the "traditional" and the other is the "linseed oil" based one.
The linseed oil version caims "better UV protection" than the traditional. I hope that's not a "clue" to something that you might be sorry about.
One thought: If you have to patch and match, why go to an "odd" brand?

- As I understand it, it's more of a "varnish oil" than a typical varnish as we think of it.
