Wow! That's a big question. I'll stick to the mechanics of getting business done while on the road.
We have a friend that has a small secretarial service (just her). The last few years have been 'commute cruising' (6 months at a time). Before we leave we give her a few blank/signed checks. She picks up our mail from the PMB (private mail box) we set up, goes through it and if there's something that's urgent she contacts us both by Sailmail and to our regular email address and we respond on what to do including sending a copy through email so we can look at it. All accounts that have online bill pay are set up so it can be done where ever we are.
It's important to have someone you trust that gets your mail and goes through it. You never know what may come in the mail that needs to be addressed. A friend of ours hired a commercial service to do it. We have Gloria.
An important item is a printer/scanner. It's become a necessary piece of cruising equipment as every country wants copies and it's silly to try to hunt down a copy place just to check in or out)
I envy those that can just throw off the lines and be done with it.
