I do see that happen where a family might split up some extended sailing with kids. A boat off for a year, those onboard for a few months, sometimes overlapping time together.

Another interesting aspect is talking to friends who've gone off for a season or two at later ages in life, after kids and careers, are behind them. It's a different experience(could be better).
