It really comes off with ease. That is one reason varnish still gets used for wood protection, it comes off pretty easily. I've got 10 seasons now on my cabin sole since I wooded them and put on a half a dozen coats of spar varnish. They've lost their gloss but that's it. I never found them slippery but I don't have large open areas to deal with.
