doing a USCG documentation plate, what wood to avoid?

There happens to be a hardwood place very close to my office... I can select from anything from Teak to IPE to Rosewood to Walnut, to just about any hardwood available. If I do this in Teak, the cost of the wood is around $75... ($24 a board foot) there are other woods that look as nice or nicer...

Just wondering, are there any hardwoods that really do not fare well long term hidden in a clothes locker on a small boat?

Yeah I am making this fancier than it probably needs to be... but it is my boat, what the heck.

I may just pick something that just looks cool... maybe a rosewood... Even though I don't do much woodwork myself (OK, very little) I love going into that hardwood store just for the various wild smells.

I have a router, I keep wondering if I could hand guide it well enough to do this.
