that everyone seems to be compelled to do - carving the numbers in a frame or bulkhead or a wood block stuck to same. Personally, there are few boats it looks good on - more like vandalism on a lot of them. Both documented boats we have owned have had the numbers either painted or vinyl stickers with a layer of glass over them on the hull in an outside locker.

If you are going to stick it in a clothes locker, why not cedar?
