I haven't studied up on a Pacific crossing, so maybe early February is fine. I just wonder though because I know the typical time to go is April. However, maybe that's for some other reason, such as the season at an ultimate destination other than Hawai'i (?).

I wonder if they did some investigating via pilot charts, a cruising route book, or other method?
