If you used something like this as backup to your regular mooring pendent it would make sense, assuming the backup is longer by couple of feet so it doesn't come into play until bad stuff is happening. Too long and it would snag something.

I like the Polydyne type pendents, and use one on my center hull as backup to my bridle, in case I loose a leg. (My bridle is 5/8" nylon 3-strand and all attachments are stainless thimble with shackles so there are no chafe points.)
