But aside from some modern materials, how is this "new?" I'd agree that cruising boats improved greatly through the 70's and 80's but since then I'm pretty unimpressed. After a while, one gets stuck in the familiarity of what was seen when first learned about a subject. IMHO, new cruisers are downright ugly and cheap. (Price not included.)
