Friend of mine has a boat there and has been told that soot has covered parts of his boat.

The San Diego event "touched home" so to speak, as my boat is in Mission Bay... I woke to see this on the news and the first stories didn't give a "where." Turns out it was no where near me... I can't even go under the bridge into that area. Still... 9 boats damaged or lost.
