Have the number of boat fires increased recently? Or are we more aware of them due to the Internet?

I am usually very anal about electrical. Once I had a frayed wire to a cabin fan short and turn white hot amazingly fast. The wire was so thin that the circuit breaker (for the cabin light circuit) did not pop. If I had not been there it could have erupted into a fire.
