My diesel fill is located on the floor of the cockpit, as it is on many boats. I sometimes wonder how good that plastic cap and O ring are at keeping heavy rains and boarding seas for seeping into the fuel tank. My fill happens to be very close to the pedestal, so it is out of the way of foot traffic. I'm considering making a round flange to raise the fill an inch or so off the floor, and then making some kind of waterproof cover that screws onto (or otherwise fastens to) the flange to create a waterproof cap for the deck fill. I haven't yet figured out or found a way to make the cover, but perhaps wandering around Lowe's plumbing dept I'll get some ideas. If anyone has any ideas or seen something like this before I'd be interested.
Maybe I'm being paranoid about the deck fill, but it's always nice to eliminate any doubt in systems on the boat.
I've received some great feedback on my questions here recently, very much appreciate it.
