the second one goes through a rope clutch as a one way "valve" on the way up. Nell pulls me up via the anchor windlass. I pull on the secondary line as I go up. I know some people don't like that method but I've never had a problem with it. On the way down I am holding on to some standing halyards.

Also, don't use a rope to wire spliced line. I prefer to use the spinnaker halyards.
