I remember going up in a chair on the 143" schooner I worked on and noticing (at the top, of course) that the pin on the block was loose and working out! They sent me up a hammer on another line so I could pound it in and carry on. My current boat has mast steps and I climb wearing a bosuns chair rhat my wife tails on a halyard winch. I'm more comfortable climbing that getting cranked up. Like Tom, I think that mast winches on a boat the size of mine -35'- are being pressed a bit too hard for that. I probably should lead the halyard to a bigger winch next time.
