Before picking up this wad of old floating polypropylene line in the wheel killing the engine and jamming the rudder. It took me a couple hours to clear this mess while bobbing in the dinghy using the boathook with a pruning saw lashed to the end. By the time I cleared the worst of it, freeing the rudder, the wind had filled in and we had a lovely sail into Boothbay Harbor. The next morning in the calm harbor I was able to clear the rest of the wrap once I got in the water and could see what I was up against. We left a garbage bag full of line in the marina dumpster.
