Sunset in Bristol RI
In Response To: Wednesday is PHOTO DAY! ()

This summer we decided to head a little further north into Narragansett Bay than we've been before by boat, to visit the Herreshoff Museum. The museum was a real treat. The walk from their dinghy dock to town was short and pleasant, along tree-lined streets with tastefully preserved antique homes, and a variety of nice restaurants and antique shops. This is now on our top-three favorite harbors to visit in that area, along with Jamestown and Wickford. Newport is interesting but we avoid it by boat (too busy).

The day this picture was taken it drizzled and misted on and off throughout the day. We went for a walk through town and the harbor park walk, then as we were returning to the boat it started to become a light rain which developed into a steady rain in the last 25 yards of our dinghy ride. Talk about timing -- just as we came aboard it became heavy and stayed heavy for several hours while we cooked and ate dinner.

The rain let up and the clouds parted long enough to give us this glimpse of sunset, then it became overcast again and rained heavily while we slept. I did not do any color or contrast enhancement to this image.

Dawn the next day brought clear weather with a nice breeze from the WSW, and we tacked west around the top of Prudence Island and south to Wickford in 20-25k of apparent wind (and boat speeds in the lower teens, in fairly flat water). It was the best sail of the summer, so far.
