Don't get me wrong I believe that the climate is changing due to mans existence on the planet. I don't for a minute believe that one climate event no matter how extreme is an indicator. The reason that the meterological community knows what the "blocking" systems are and why they affected Sandy is because weather has a habit of repeating itself.
The terminating path of Sandy was very close to '38 without the left jog. The great Sept. gale of 1815 was another event worth noting would have rated as a cat 3 on Safir-Simpson.
Are these events becoming more regular? I'm no scientist though my dad was a meteorologist and we have had many, many discussions about climate change and the historical context of these events.
