The packing gland on YD is under the rear shower pan. To get to it I have to open the short staircase (2 steps) to the rear stateroom, lay a long price of closed cell foam over the rear of the engine and transmission, struggle and inch my way in and reach as far as I can to touch it. It was a nightmare to adjust. When the shaft broke last year I installed the Lasdrop dripless on the recommendation of Evans Starzinger. Lasdrop is the only dripless that has no maintenance for years. Under maintenance all it says is to give it a visual check once in a while as you would do on any boat part. Lasdrop hasn't made a big impact on small sailboats. They're used quite a bit on commercial vessels like fishing boats.
In order to put the Lasdrop on I had to remove the entire shower pan. What a PITA.
