If I pull the access panel under the q-berth I can either see the packing gland or touch the packing gland, but I can't see it AND touch it. If I empty the port cockpit locker, pull the batteries and the battery boxes I can climb down in and juuuust get to it. I remove my cell phone, wallet, shoes and pocket knife and always have someone standing by in case I can't get back out. Unfortunately, even with all that I can't reach anything aft of the fuel tank which includes the steering gear, cables, quadrant, thruhulls for the cockpit scuppers, manual bilgepump and shower sump pump. I can see the grease zirk on the rudder shaft but could never reach it with a grease gun. If any of that starts taking water the only answer will be life vests and the ditch bag.
