disconnect the NEG cable until spring. Haven't had a problem yet. It gets pretty cold -25C at times. If your battery is shot you might as well pull it now and not worry but if it holds a charge you should be OK. I spent 5 years in Northern Alberta where your tires freeze flat on the bottom and the transmission gets slushy but I don't know of anyones battery cracking.
