Battery cable end sealing

Still working on the electrical update. Yesterday I needed to make up a couple of new battery cables. The last time, after I set the ends on the cable, I used a length of heat shrink tubing, the type with a seal material in it, to cover the small gap between the cable shielding and the end fitting. Those cables are still in great shape.

With the cable and end fittings in hand, I looked at the spare heat shrink tubing I had left over from a more recent project and noticed it did NOT have the seal material in it.

Looking around, I saw the roll of Butyl tape I was using on another project. So....I used a small amount of the Butyl to seal the area, then covered it with the heat shrink tubing and set it.

Any down side?

Greg
