And you will have to pump up hill from the head to the top of the tank.

Make sure the pump on your head is up to the task. My tank used to be vertical against the hull behind the head but the inlet was only about 20" above the bowl. I had no problems pumping but I don't know how much head pressure the typical head pump can overcome. You will end up with effluent standing in the discharge hose. Mine used to seep back into the bowl before I replaced the pump valves. You should keep the discharge line as short as possible and try to flush water through it regularly so you don't have the smelly stuff sitting in the hose.
