If I have the story correct it was a new, high tech, racing machine that didn't even have a shakedown, had only been out a few times and was in an offshore (yeah, Southern California) overnight race of more than 100 miles and was carrying only manditory anchor gear?
Needless loss of life is dumb but so was the decision to race that boat in that race. The skipper should have done a season of local races first. (wonder what his previous boat and experience was?)
If my understanding of the situation is wrong I appologize for my ignorance of this unnecessary tragic event.
