I posted on the maintenance issue in the past. I feel that it's impossible to do all recommended maintenance that's suggested but anything to hold up the mast? It must be done or this will happen.
I found out the hard way with a broken forward lower chainplate in 35 knots. BANG! The Admiral thought we hit something until I noticed a loose lower and just pulled it up by grabbing on the wire. Of course loosing the bobstay is a catastrophy. Loosing a forward lower was doable.
