City Island has crappy public transportation

Just bus service, and no close subways. If I lived in Manhattan I wouldn't consider CI.
Better choices would be Hudson marinas, e.g. Tarrytown, Ossining, or Liberty Landing. Or New Rochelle, Manhasset, Oyster Bay. All are served by commuter rail lines that have stations in walking distance of the marinas.
