Jill and I sailed back over to the Oakland Yacht Club last Friday. Gary Jobson was giving a talk on Saturday May 18, and we wanted to listen in what his thoughts were about all of this.
IF you get a chance to go to one of his talks, GO!! It was a GREAT evening.
Gary
So much was discussed that I can't begin to relate it all, but Jill and I came away from the talk with a different perspective of all that is taking place. Much of what he went over was older things, but he also talked about the quest for speed on the water using wind power. One of the high spots was at the very end when many people got to ask questions and most were very direct, like "what will come down to our boats" He talked about carbon fiber and gave what I thought was a very honest reply stating "not much" for years to come.
Some of what he talked about was the effort to get people involved. Making the sport more exciting in some way. If the race was boring, like some yacht racing can be for spectators, would TV still continue to cover it (my words, not his). The younger generation is so used to fast action (BIG BANG movies) you need that to get a lot of them involved.
Just my put......
