Fitting a 39'er into a shipping container was an outrageous compromise.

I loved the concept. I've seen a couple regularly in our area. A local builder picked up the molds and has built the third container yacht. I still think it's a good idea for the owner utilizing the concept to move the boat to various areas around the globe.

Seeing the boat on the water, I'm not sure of the sailing performance. The rig looks small due to the sliver like shape, it simply can only carry so much sail power and not go on it's ear. On the other hand, it motors nicely. In the right sailing conditions it's likely a great sailer. A savvy sailor could make great use of it threading canals in the EU and sailing protected coastal areas between, then pack back in the can and ship off for new cruising grounds.

I still like the idea, Bob Perry took the clients request, fit it into a container, and did a great design. The market of people wanting a boat to fit a container must be small.
