Since I single hand a lot, I need a ladder that can get me back aboard, moored, or underway. I bought a 5 step "Sea Dog" collapsable ladder, made a sunbrella pouch for it that has a velcro closure and a messenger rope attached to the bottom rung. The pouch is fastened to a deck cleat and stowed on deck. The messenger line hangs down the outside of the hull to the water's edge. Pull on the line and the ladder deploys. Works fine and is easy to stow when the boat is at dock.
