I use a loose strap under the spreaders
In Response To: twice a year argument at the mast stepper ()

Loose strap, outside the lower shrouds so I have to lower the strap before fitting the lowers. I lift from the front of the mast, just have to be careful not to hang up on the steaming light. Single spreader, the balance point is just above the spreaders so just a little effort to lift the base into place.
