I was downloading Grib files and providing information to DISTANT STAR via satphone. For 2 days when I spoke to them they were experiencing winds in the upper 30s to mid 40s at the same time the gribs were showing mid 20s. They were experiencing huge seas when the gribs said low 3 meters in size.
I know judging sea height from a boat is difficult, but I sailed aboard this boat from Tortola to Massachusetts last summer, and Tom was saying seas were much larger than 10', more like 20'-30', and given his experience and my experience sailing with him, I am inclined to believe seas were much larger than the gribs were reporting.
Did anyone else notice this? Reading some of the other accounts on the Caribbean 1500 site and what's been posted here, the reports all seemed to say the winds and seas were both significantly greater than gribs were showing.
