The Stream with with opposing winds

We crossed once right after a front, well it was supposed to be right after but the wind lasted a little longer. They talk about how you get a saw tooth wave. What that means is you get a vertical wall on one side of the wave and the other side slopes off. We were getting one of these every 15 minutes. On this crossing the waves were maybe 6 ft high if that and there was no way not to take green water the length of the deck. When we pulled into Cat Key we noticed that 6 of the 7 welds on the bowsprit were broken. Yes we should have turn back but keep thinking it would lay down.
