The admiral has told me in n o uncertain terms that she will be caring for the interior teak in the new boat and that she prefers to keep it as an oiled finish rather than varnished like I did on the Islander. We have used Starbrite Golden Teak Oil for just about as long as I can remember for interiors and occasionally exterior. I know that she went through about 1/2 a quart so far. I also know that the previous owner "lightly maintained" things that were cosmetic, interior teak especially. I was down working on some projects over the weekend and even with all the teak oil applied it really does not look all that great. Kind of like the stuff gets absorbed almost as fast as you apply it.
I realize that Starbrite is in business to sell more teak oil so perhaps the stuff is mostly some sort of solvent that evaporates? My question to the group is, do you have a favorite product for caring for the interior teak? It would be nice to find something that really feeds the wood. Or, do you suppose that it will get to the point where the absorbtion tapers off and the oiled finish comes back?
