That's the difference. The 20" of lake effect snow missed us completely, we had blue skies and sunshine yesterday and today. The winds never clocked around as predicted but 20 miles to the east the snow starts in a big way, Interstate 90 has been closed at the New York state line for 2 days now, that is about 15 miles from my house. Blizzard conditions yesterday, so much snow between there and Buffalo the road crews are overwhelmed. They are talking feet of snow, below zero temps and winds in the 30+ range. Ice has also started to form on the Niagara River in Buffalo causing ice jams so now they have added flood warnings and it is still snowing.
I feek sorry for the truckers and travelers that use I-90, that is pretty much the only East-West route between Cleveland and Rochester. There is a two lane state route closer to the lake but that has an entirely different set of issues, it goes through the Seneca Indian Reservation and they are their own world. We made a trip to the West Marine in Buffalo late summer to pick up new jack stands for the IP and I decided it would be more scenic to take the lake road back home..........wow, what a disaster that was. Super ride right up to the reservation, then an enormous mess. The road was shut down for some very odd looking construction, it looked almost like they were building a traffic circle in the middle of the Seneca Nation. The detours were so poorly marked that we got lost three or four times, the GPS routed us onto a dirt lane into the woods littlered with beer cans and garbage. I backed out and left that place in a hurry. There was also no one working on it, just very old looking construction equipment scattered around.
