Unfortunately, our power use situation is probably unlike most of the posters here. Our boats live in a slip most of the time, hooked up to shore power. Our sailing happens on weekends due to work constraints and is usually limited to day sailing only. Thereare no "destinations" within a days sailing distance so the only anchor out times would be at the state park marina basin across the bay and even that is a rare occurance that may involve an afternoon although over nighting has happened a couple of times. If the planets align and things go even partially as planned, we would like to head to out west of here, but once again with the nature of the north coast we will end up club hopping with slips and shore power. The free anchorage situation is just not common until you get to the far eastern or western ends of the lake. If I was putting numbers to this I would say the norm would be max 12 hours away from a shore power hookup. Naturally we have that idea that at some time in "the future" we would like to be out for a couple of weeks, but even at that, the boats from our club typically will stay at reciprocating yacht clubs around the Great Lakes. Will we ever find our way south? Wishful thinking but not likely.
