We were on board when we were hit and lost all of our electronics
In Response To: Lightning Damage Question ()

The only outwardly visible damage was the faceplate of the vhf was blown clear off and a battery shorted and boiled dry. Every piece of electronics and much of the electrics (inverter, charger, alternator, etc) were damaged. I took everything apart to look for damage. Other than above, the only internal visible damage I could physically see were two blown surface-mount diode on the autopilot computer board. I needed a 4x magnifying glass to see it. All other radios, instruments, inverter, etc were dead, but showed no obvious physical damage. Later on, our newish windlass motor quit and I found burned wires in the bendix that I attribute to lightning damage because the windlass was flakey following the strike, then decided to work like new when the insurance adjuster was present and testing everything.
