The good news for the little guy is that someone can get a nice custom boat pretty cheap (relatively speaking). That 50' daysailer, Ginger, went on the market for 7 or 800k within a couple years of launch. Last asking price I saw before it apparently was sold was down to $325k. That's in the ball park for a 30 something newbuild custom daysailer. But the operating expenses are still bigger, proportionately.
